Aashlesha Galla

Hi everyone! I’m Aashlesha, this year’s SCRUBS General Secretary. My role involves doing various managerial tasks for the day-to-day running of the society and liasing with the committee to help organise and run events.

I absolutely love anatomy and any opportunity to do some suturing so you might see me around at the weekly SCRUBS skills sessions, or at the various events and conferences we hold throughout the year. I’m looking forward to working and communicating with our committee members in the different cells, and hopefully meeting some of you at our various sessions. I aim to build on and continue the wonderful work done by committee over the years and implement new ideas which could help SCRUBS better support you and create the best possible experience for all students!

Outside of SCRUBS, I love playing the piano, reading and trying out new cafes and restaurants! Feel free to message me if you have any questions or if you just want to chat!

Philip Spani-Orchin
Head of Derby

Hi all, I'm your head of Derby this year and really looking forward to having in-person sessions and more events with the Nottingham site.

I work with Alistair and Katherine to help deliver fantastic events at the Derby site and promote and encourage interest in surgical careers and skills.

I think regardless of what sort of doctor you want to be, surgical skills are an essential (and dare I say fun) challenge we can all improve.
I'm sure I've met most of you, and you'll know about my love of anything neuroscience/surgical. But if we haven't, don't hesitate to stop and chat with me.

Outside of SCRUBS and medicine, you'll find me in restaurants, playing the piano or trying to make the cost of my motorsport race licence worth it!

Alistair Hewins
Derby Co-ordinator

Hi, I'm Alistair and I have a keen interest in surgery, especially trauma and orthopaedics.

I'll be one of the Derby co-ordinator's this year, and would like to help others tackle the daunting task of preparing a portfolio for core surgical training applications. Additionally, I hope to get more events happening at Derby so that people can have a truly better idea what a career in surgery looks like, be that the fun side of operations and procedures, or the less-fun side of competition for training posts as well as the expectation of doing research.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy going for hikes in the Peak District and train at a martial arts gym in Long Eaton.
